How we measure
Almost any coffee shop that calls itself specialty serves a flat white. Batch brew and V60 take a grinder, a scale, fresh coffee and someone who knows how to brew them, and selling their own beans says coffee is the heart of the business. The indicator counts how many of these four things we confirmed at each coffee shop.
- Batch brew
- Filter coffee brewed in batches, ready to pour.
- V60
- Pour-over: V60, Chemex, Kalita or another manual method.
- Flat white
- A double espresso with finely textured milk.
- Coffee beans
- They sell their coffee beans to take home.
Three states, never a made-up no
- Yes. A public source says so for that location, and we show the quote and the link.
- No.A source says explicitly that they don't have it.
- No data.We found no evidence either way. It isn't a no.
Where the data comes from
We find coffee shops on Google Maps and then read what is published about each one: their website and menu, their Instagram, reviews, coffee guides and the press. A language model extracts the facts, and we only accept a yes or a no when it comes with a word-for-word quote that appears in the source. Nobody pays to be listed and we don't publish user reviews.
We also note whether you can work on a laptop and whether the place is tiny or roomy, with the same rules.
